The Inertia of Wisdom Teeth

Tuesday, May 27th, 2008

Paul Mabray, the newly minted Chief Strategy Officer of Inertia Beverage Group in Napa, comes back to the studio after a long time away from us, and missing all his wisdom teeth to boot. Along with Kaz and Randy, he talks about IBG’s new CEO Ted Jansen, as well as the (long-delayed-but-still-free-of-charge) ReThink Compliance tool, and the upcoming Direct Sales Symposium at COPIA this July.

Kaz and Randy also take a call from Spain(!) as Ryan Opaz of Catavino gives the love to his wine blogging brethren and OpenWine Consortium cohorts. The upcoming Wine Bloggers Conference this October gets another mention, and Twitter provides the questions from the audience!

One of the most interactive Wine Biz Radio episodes you’ll ever hear, good listening!

Mondavi Memorial

Tuesday, May 27th, 2008

Kaz and Randy take a more sober (and technically challenging) tone, as they pay homage to Robert Mondavi’s passing. Kaz is basically serious throughout(!) and Randy overcomes the somewhat onerous hurdles of making Talkshoe work.

At about 5:48 into the show, listen for the sudden quality improvement (that is to say, the first few minutes are hard to listen to — you have Randy’s abject apologies).

An  inspiring Wine Biz Radio episode, we hope you enjoy it.

Upcoming: Talkshoe episode about Robert Mondavi

Tuesday, May 20th, 2008

Wine Biz Radio will be hosting a Talkshoe conference about Robert Mondavi this Friday, May 23 at 9AM Pacific. Please check our Talkshoe page for more information about how to participate.

Talkshoe’s New Theme Song

Monday, May 19th, 2008

Kaz and Randy, with regrets from Paul Mabray and his wisdom teeth, invent a show from thin air. Where else can you see two people describe on the radio how the semi-finalist logo designs look for Wine Blogging Wednesday? How about a Zeppelin being flown from Sunnyvale to Napa for jet-setting wine lovers? Wanna hear Kaz’s take on global warming?

It’s a tidbits show, the guys haven’t had one of those in a long time. Listen up and enjoy!

The Netflix of Wine

Monday, May 12th, 2008

Kaz and Randy invite Marshall Sontag and Brittany Dean of WineQ.com (some call it the “Netflix of Wine”) into the studio to talk up their service, and between the ADHD field-of-effect that Kaz creates with his very presence, they let their worst kept secret out: create-your-own wine club that you can invite your friends to join! Think “RSS of wine” and you start to understand.

Joel Vincent of OpenWine Consortium calls in to give props to WineQ as well as chat about the transition of his first blog/social site, Wine Life Today and the future of the OWC.

They also take a call from the Texas Wine and Grapegrowers Association about their upcoming Lone Star International Wine Competition.

That, and Brittany calls herself a “wine slut” on the air. If you’re Brittany’s parents, we’re deeply sorry.

The best hour of wine radio is back, enjoy!

Wine Biz Radio: WBW#45 – “Old World” Riesling

Wednesday, May 7th, 2008

Kaz and Randy do it over the phone!? Yes, indeed, the first (and hopefully) only Wine Blogging Wednesday where Kaz and Randy taste the same wine at the same time, from two different locations.

This time, it’s “Old World” Riesling, and they’ve chosen a Schloss Vollrads 2003 Rheingau Kabinett that they picked up at Taylor and Norton‘s in Sonoma. Kaz dedicates the tasting to his “Deutsch heritage”, and Randy also mentions (on the side) about the revolutionary (and French?) innovation called USB Wine.
