You got it. All you can ultimately do is entertain yourselves – the show will then find its complementary audience.

I learned that in film school. If something made me laugh in editing, and repeatedly, then it always found a receptive audience in class or at an outside screening. More genuine and…heck, more fun…than trying to predict market tastes or trends.
