Belatedly, Randy and Kaz examine the winery and wine that Randy first remembered seeing his parents lay down in the hall closet all those many years ago. Following Lenn Thompson‘s fourth anniversary Wine Blogging Wednesday theme of “Back To Your Roots“, Randy and Kaz have a look at the Clos Du Val 2005 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. Their opinions are high at first taste, but after the usual 20-minute break, watch out!

Mix in the usual Kaz and Randy shuck-and-jive, and you have yourself a good time!

Better late than never!

This month’s theme is “Brought to you by the letter ‘S’,” (thanks to Grape Juice for hosting this month’s WBW) and Kaz and Randy don’t disappoint! Follow along as they taste their way through a 2003 St. Francis Sonoma County Syrah. They both give it high marks, and figure they found four S’s in the wine, hence “quadruple word score”! All that, and they only go off on a few tangents!

Red Car Boxcar White, In The Station For Tasting (WBW#46)

Kaz and Randy convene at Randy’s hillside ranch to taste their latest entry for this Wine Blogging Wednesday. They taste a 2006 Red Car Boxcar White (sorry, the Red Car website is all Flash-bound and doesn’t include notes on this specific wine), which is a blend of mostly Viognier, with the rest split between Roussanne and Marsanne. They both enjoy it, from the plastic cork to the frizzante to the melons and honeysuckle, despite that neither of them give a score. Dr. Debs would be even thrilled that this White Rhone costs less than $20! (Is that extra credit?)

Then Kaz and Randy go off on a myriad of tangents. It’s what they do.

Wine Biz Radio: WBW#45 – “Old World” Riesling

Kaz and Randy do it over the phone!? Yes, indeed, the first (and hopefully) only Wine Blogging Wednesday where Kaz and Randy taste the same wine at the same time, from two different locations.

This time, it’s “Old World” Riesling, and they’ve chosen a Schloss Vollrads 2003 Rheingau Kabinett that they picked up at Taylor and Norton‘s in Sonoma. Kaz dedicates the tasting to his “Deutsch heritage”, and Randy also mentions (on the side) about the revolutionary (and French?) innovation called USB Wine.
