The Giveaway Show

We’re giving it all away!!

Well, okay, we’re not really doing that, but we are going to give a couple listeners some really nifty stuff!

Kaz and Randy give some initial ideas for finding a wine-related name for a listener‘s dog! Randall Grahm talks with your favorite hosts to discuss his new book, Been Doon So Long! Paul Mabray idles in the live chat while they quickly review his recent Palate Press article (Part 1 and Part 2) rating of wine-related iPhone apps! It’s all that and more!

For a chance to win some of Kaz’s wine, you need to do the following: Comment on this episode, leaving your best attempt at a clever wine-related name for a dog. The listener who sent this idea in will select the winner, who will apparently also get some smoked pheasant for his or her dog-naming skills. The winner will be selected at next week’s recording session, so you have until Midnight, October 13!

For a chance to win a copy of Randall Grhm’s book, Been Doon So Long, you need to do the following: Leave a comment on this episode describing why you should win, or what Bonny Doon Vineyard means to you, or how sexy or goofy Randall is, or pretty much anything at all (including entries for the dog-naming above). We will randomly pick a winner, who will get the book shipped to them and Randy’s expense! Again, you have until Midnight, October 13 to get your comment posted!

Fine Print: One entry per email address/account. Sponsors, employees and hosts of THMM/KSVY, employees of Kaz Winery, and employees of VOM Productions are not eligible to win. Winner will be selected at random and announced on next week’s show. If the winning entry is not valid for any reason, another winner will be selected at random until we get a friggin’ valid winning entry.

To add a few details to the dog naming give away. I typically do a AKC name/callname pairing so the you have to think a little bit. A few examples:

Melchris Rapid Transit callname Bart (if you are in the Bay Area this is funny)
Lighthouse Pacific's First callname Traz (Alcatraz was the first Pacific Lighthouse)
Woodbine Kaboom Boss callname Rico (See the Madagascar DVD and the Penguin Christmas Special)

I'm trying to avoid callnames that being with R or T. A pattern in my naming of the last 4 dogs.

#1 – AKC name: Central Valley Zinfandel
    everyday: “Raisin”

#2 – AKC name: Carneros Overseed
    everyday: “Clover”

Because I read @RandallGrahm's essay in the wine and philosophy book and thought it was funny

I believe the wine world would be a much better, tastier, and all together sexier place if there were more folks like Randall Graham in it! He is a role model for many in the wine industry, thanks for having him on the show.

I think that listening this Wine biz Radio and drinking my Reislings wine with Partagas cigars is the best way to feel the real taste and joy. I would love to do this again and again whenever I will get an opportunity to do.

Listened to the show on the way into work this morning. Couple of items:

Going to the Randall Grahm tasting tonight; we are VERY MUCH looking forward to the opportunity. Good luck getting in Randall. Twin Cities are 30 degrees below average temperature and we were under a winter storm advisory. Should be about 60 degrees this time of year. Today 30 with 2 inches of the white stuff.

Dog name: In honor of Randall Grahm I'd recommend an AKC registered name “Rhone Ranger” with the callname being “Ranger”. Doesn't Ranger just sound like a good dog name?

    A few more dog names:

    Sonoma Coastal Layer “Misty”
    Barrel Heavy Toast “Char”

Not really too creative, but I like “sur lie.”
I suppose for AKC you could use something like: Fruity, full and fresh from Muscadet….

I need to win (or buy) Been Doon So Long! because I gotta know how he put the fun in wine, not like the sloppy drunk fun of say Night train or Thunderbird (sorry Gallo) but more cerebral artistic fun of say Sine Qua Non, because before there was art to enjoy there was zin to to indulge in. I need to know does the party continue.

I think I should win purely on the basis that I am THE BEING OF PURE ID.

    Dude…another good show, kids!

    Kaz's Dog Naming extravaganza:
    1. Musty Nose: Must
    2. Wet Dog: Corked
    3. Vino: Vinny

    Randall Grahm's Book:
I deserve the copy of his book because, while he's big on the pun, I truly find his writing a ton of fun and deserved of getting its time in the sun!
